Canada’s Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) + Seal Hunting

As Canada’s commercial seal hunt moves into the Northern Gulf and the Front off Newfoundland, IFAW hunt monitors have returned from Charlottetown with footage of cruelty and horror.

The IFAW team spotted six sealing boats off the coast of Newfoundland on Thursday, April 5th. They saw hunting with rifles and hakapiks. Any witness to this slaughter cannot justify the cruel manner in which this hunt is conducted.

Hundreds of thousands of baby seals will continue to suffer and die. Despite the tragedy that global warming has wreaked on the seals this year, 270,000 seals are still slated to be killed.
